Soulja Boys new movie was released today and he ended up in jail. Think it was staged?!
Soulja Boy had 10 big interviews lined up today to promote his new documentary ... instead, he's locked up in jail ... and it just might be the best thing that could have ever happened for the flick.
In case you weren't aware -- the documentary "Soulja Boy: The Movie" is being released on DVD today, and the rapper was supposed to spend the day pushing the movie during plastic-smile interviews with various media outlets.
Problem is ... Soulja was locked up in a Georgia jail all day on marijuana possession charges ...
Cops pulled over the Escalade Soulja Boy was in because one of the lights on the vehicle was out.
Sources tell us ... when cops approached the car, they detected a "strong odor" of marijuana ... and searched the SUV.
We're told cops found a briefcase during the search, which they believe belongs to Soulja Boy ... and inside, officers claim they found a "substantial amount" of weed and a firearm.
Law enforcement sources say all 5 men were hauled to a nearby jail, booked for marijuana possession and a gun charge.....and have since been released after posting bond.
So was this all a plot to sell Soulja Boy's movie?!
The director Peter Spirer, who is behind the popular "Beef" series DVD, "Just Another Day" (which is currently playing on B.E.T featuring our very own, Lady T) and Soulja Boy's new movie, says,
"I'm not sure how this will affect the movie ... Hopefully he gets out from this situation to get his movie out everywhere like he wanted."Soulja Boy responded via Twitter saying,
I missed 10 interviews today for my new movie! to those companies i'm sorry! you can see I had a lil situation. the show must go on.

thank you and i'm sorry. love you forever, seeing your letters and you standing outside that jail made me feel the love. my fans r the best.
