A lot of little girls, through out the years, have looked up to Barbie for style and fashion but some just could never relate to the physical image. Some will say Barbie only shows one body type, allowing young girls to think they have to strive for that body or perhaps they are not good enough.
Well, it appears that all changes... starting now!
Mattel announced Thursday that Barbie dolls are now available in three different body types, heights and a variety of skin tones and hairstyles.
Body types available include tall, petite and curvy.
"For more than 55 years, Barbie has been a global, cultural icon and a source of inspiration and imagination to millions of girls around the world,"
said Richard Dickson, President and Chief Operating Officer of Mattel.
"Barbie reflects the world girls see around them. Her ability to evolve and grow with the times, while staying true to her spirit, is central to why Barbie is the number one fashion doll in the world."
The new dolls are available online starting today, and in-stores this spring.
"We believe we have a responsibility to girls and parents to reflect a broader view of beauty,"
said Evelyn Mazzocco, Senior Vice President and Global General Manager Barbie.
