What can we say? She is the "Voice of New York" --  QUEEN of Hip-Hop radio -- and no one can ever take her place. But now Angie Martinez's home for the last 25 years, has to look for a new person to attempt to fill her shoes. Angie made the shocking announcement this week that she is leaving NYC's HOT97/ Emmis Comunications, having her last show on Wednesday, June 18th 2014.

For those who did not hear the live announcement, she explained on her social networks:
Today I resigned from HOT97. I am grateful to the Emmis family for my time with the company and the immeasurable way that it has shaped my life. We made history together in so many ways and I will cherish those memories and my friendships forever. This was one of the toughest decisions I’ve ever had to make but ultimately it is time to move on, to grow and to be challenged in new ways. Saying goodbye is always emotional and bitter sweet but I am extremely excited about the future. Thank you HOT97 and most importantly….the listeners… for an unimaginable journey. Today will be my last show ❤️ stay tuned…. Love, angie
Angie added,
Life has to move forward. Everything has its time and everything ends.
Just a day later, the world got the confirmation that Ang is not only leaving her home team for over 20 years, she has moved up a few dials to their rival station Power 105.1! If you have been following these two rival stations, this is big. The radio game has been shooken up.

Now that Angie is with Clear Channel communications she is not only with Power105.1 but she has also joined Miami's WMIB (103.5 FM), known as “The Beat.” Emmis, who is independently owned, gave Angie one show Mon- Fri. Clear Channel though operates more than 800 stations in the United States, more than any other broadcaster, so we assume Ang needed to spread her wings and get her syndication on, as she should!

Ms. Martinez’s departure is one of several recent changes at Hot 97. In March, Ebro Darden, the station’s program director, stepped down from that role but continued as the station’s morning host. Later that month, VH1 began broadcasting a reality show about the station, “This is Hot 97.”

For Angie's last show, she kept it all about her HOT97 family and her listeners... no big slew of celebs in the building. To us that means she will be digging into her 25 year plus celeb contact list and bringing out the big guns for her first new show. Can't wait to see what happens...

Word is, Angie's new show will start sometime in July.

Congrats Ang, we will be looking for you!
